Low pH and corrosive water? Book a free in-home water test.
We test your water on the spot and you see the results before you pay anything. No obligation.
What it is
Acidic, or low pH, water is corrosive. It slowly dissolves copper and other metals from your plumbing, which leads to stains, leaks and metal in your water.
Signs to look for
- Blue-green stains in sinks, tubs and toilets
- Pinhole leaks in copper pipes
- A metallic or bitter taste
- Early failure of fixtures or the water heater
What causes it
Groundwater in much of New England tends to be on the acidic side, so low pH comes up most often with private wells.
How we fix it
The usual fix is an acid neutralizer, a tank of calcite that raises the pH as water enters the house. A typical installed range is $1,500–$2,800. Very acidic water may need a different setup, so your exact price comes after the test.
If metal from your pipes is a concern, a certified lab test for lead and copper is a good idea too. Ask us about one.
