What it is
Scale is the white, chalky crust that builds up wherever water sits or gets heated. It's the most visible sign of hard water.
Signs to look for
- Crusty white buildup on faucets and showerheads
- Clogged aerators and weak shower spray
- Kettles and coffee makers that need constant descaling
- A noisy or less efficient water heater
- Spotty dishes even from the dishwasher
What causes it
Scale forms when calcium and magnesium in hard water come out of solution, especially when the water is heated.
How we fix it
Descaling cleaners treat the symptom. A water softener stops scale from forming in the first place and helps protect your water heater and appliances.
